Allegheny Power gets better deal from PUC
Article Abstract:
Allegheny Energy Inc. has agreed to compromise with Pennsylvania's Public Utility Commission that will reduce Allegheny Power customer bills by at least 2.5% in 1999 or savings of slightly over $1 a month. Allegheny Power's residential customers could save money through switching to a new electricity supplier under the settlement. Allegheny Energy agreed to the rate cut in return for collecting $670 million in stranded costs from its customers as the state starts its electric choice program. Stranded costs are costs related with power facilities, supply contracts and other items that can not be recovered in a competitive electric market.

Reshuffling at top of DQE shows change in direction
Article Abstract:
DQE Inc. revamped its executive team on Nov. 3, 1998, signalling its intent to give more concentration on its other operations, aside from its Duquesne Light Co. division. The reorganization is in line with its plan to enhance its profitability in its other businesses, especially as Duquesne Light will veer from electricity production to become a power delivery concern. Among the changes is the appointment of Vice President and Treasurer Donald J. Clayton as president of the AquaSource water utility unit, which has outdone DQE's electric utility business.
