Kvaerner tries to reassure black business leaders
Article Abstract:
Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard president Harold Rafdal met with the African American Chamber of Commerce to respond to complaints that the company has not been awarding enough contracts to minority- and women-owned businesses. Rafdal and Gary Thompson, Kvaerner's coordinator for construction told the 80 atendees at the civic group's breakfast how to become subcontractors. Rafdal's inability to identify the minority firms that had supposedly received $12.5 million and $60 million in contracts caused a show of skepticism among the participants.
