Old-line Aetna struggles with an acquisition

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna Inc., which acquired Blue Bell, Penn.-based U.S. Healthcare for $8.9 billion about three years ago, has become a takeover target. A health-care analyst with Banc of America Securities said Aetna became the largest managed-care operator in the US with 21 million subscribers through the merger.
