A CA in ... New York
Article Abstract:
Price Waterhouse (PW) employee Kate Fleming, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is practicing in New York City as part of PW's International Career Development Programme. Fleming believes that UK accountants fit in well in the US due to the commonality of the language and their strong professional skills. Fleming believes that auditing is similar in both the US and the UK, and that the emphasis of the Scottish chartered accountant qualification on initiative and self-help creates a self-reliance that was instrumental in her success. Fleming believes that US and UK accountants typically arrive at the same conclusions but take different routes, the UK accountant relying more on a feeling of what is reasonable in the context of the situation and the US accountant relying on precedent.
