The finances of a navy pilot and his wife are discussed. After a twenty-eight year military career, Captain Ed Davis is ready to retire and look for a new career. Armed with a pension which will equal about sixty-eight percent of his salary, Davis has a positive attitude, and is willing to work hard when he finds the right opportunity. Aside from finding a new career, an additional concern of Davis' is being able to build up some savings equity so that when he really, finally retires in fifteen years, he and his wife will have an assured monthly income. The advice of an employment counselor and a financial planner are given, which includes looking for a job with a growing, fledgling business; and buying more universal life insurance.

The personal finances of one family are highlighted. Ron Anderson had worked for one company for twenty-six years, when, in the fall of 1981, at the age of fifty-nine, was let go. He has filed an age discrimination suit against the company, but he still needs an income to live on, and to see his children through school, a top priority for him. Although Anderson has, through his lifetime, invested wisely, and has a nice net worth, he has a cash flow problem.
