A bug's life
Article Abstract:
Multiple-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is not a highly virulent infection but a weedy little mutant that is dwarfed by its natural-state cousin, the greenish and very smelly staphylococcus bacterium. The mutation that makes MRSA resistant to so many antibiotics also makes the bug itself less robust and it infects people who are already debilitated like the very elderly, the frail, those with cancer or diabetes, and those taking drugs that suppress the immune system.
