A leap forward for business training

The Manchester Federal School of Business and Management is a project involving four major UK business schools which has backing provided by the European Development Fund of 3.5 million pounds sterling. Regional business gain from support in training and consultancy, and these businesses are backing the school. United Utilities has set up an alliance with the new school. The school was formally established in 1994 and building work is scheduled for completion in 1998.

US children can go to an investment camp rather than their traditional summer camps. The Breakers camp is held in The Breakers hotel att Palm Beach and Susan Bradley is an instructor at the camp. Children are rewarded with chocolate bars for useful answers. Students include Sean McGowan whose father taxes his income from chores to enable him to be prepared for paying tax. Bradley teaches common sense to the young investors such as not trying to time the market.

There are a number of courses for private investors in the UK. Local-government colleges can provide basic courses cheaply, and more expensive courses are available from the public sector. A course on personal finance covering areas such as pensions is offered by Laurie Payne who has a math PhD from Cambridge University. He sees strong demand in this niche market. Investors can also go one courses geared to particular services or products.
