A question of ethics
Article Abstract:
The UK Social Investment Forum argues that all investors should be able to obtain advice on ethical issues, and is asking the United Kingdom Financial Services Authority to provide guidance to financial advisers on this issue. Investors may discover that investments they have been recommended do not fit in with their ethical beliefs if they are not asked about their ethical preferences. Financial advisers are increasingly seeing that asking about ethical issues can be beneficial, as ethical investments grow in the UK.

Gearing it up and tucking it away
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom investors can use investment trusts to gain an income. They should consider annuity stocks from spilt capital investment trusts or high income investment trusts if they require an immediate high income. Conventional income stocks from split capital investment trusts, and income growth trusts are more suitable for investors seeking long-term income growth. There is a chance of capital growth with narrowing discounts, since many investment trusts have wide discounts to their net asset values.

Building an ethical portfolio
Article Abstract:
Ethical investments may focus on companies that seek to protect the environment or their employees, and may avoid companies that are involved in negative social activities. There are a number of ethical savings accounts and funds available, and these products can perform as well as conventional products. Ethical banking is also available though banks providing such a service tend to be small. Investors need to research subsidiaries as well as large companies, and Eiris is a useful source of information.
