A spammer in the works
Article Abstract:
British companies are bearing the cost of unsolicited junk electronic mail sent to their employees. Called spams, these junk e-mails range from chain letters to get-rich-quick schemes to harassing messages to mail with a virus in the attachment that can cause a computer system to crash. Aside from wasting the time of employees, spams waste the money of the company because the cost of downloading them is borne by the recipient. Unlike those who send junk mail, who at least have to pay the cost of printing and postage, senders of electronic junk mail pay virtually nothing for sending millions of unwanted mails. Fortunately, there are a number of techniques that people can use to combat spamming. These include not disclosing their e-mail address, using an e-mail software that does not accept carbon-copied mail not specifically addressed to the user or direct suspicious mail to a separate folder, and refusing to answer junk e-mail.
