Accuracy and reliability of a technique for quantifying foot shape, dimensions and structural characteristics
Article Abstract:
A technique for measuring the structural characteristics and dimensions of the human foot was developed to address footwear comfort and foot injuries. The experiment made use of an electromagnetic three-dimensional digitizing device with an accuracy of 0.7 for spatial position over a 76 cubic cm space. All measurements were made with respect to the foot's anatomically defined reference point. The inter- and intratester reliabilities of the device and the measurements were tested to be highly accurate.

A comparison of foot/ground interaction during stair negotiation and level walking in young and older women
Article Abstract:
The study is conducted to determine whether the ground reaction force profiles and peak required coefficient of friction (RCOF) differed between young and elderly women or between stair ascent, stair descent and overground walking. It is concluded that there is an occasional risk of slipping during these activities as well as depending upon the properties of the shoes and the walking surface.

A study of the discriminability of shape symbols by the foot
Article Abstract:
Experimental research testing foot-identification of visual symbols by the blind is presented, with focus on developing tactile foot symbols as landmarks. It is concluded that the subjects showed a high degree of accuracy in foot-identifying the symbols.
