PR problems beset hard-selling Coke
Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola's hard sell tactics has negatively affected its relations with its bottlers and the public school systems that have entered into franchising agreements with the soft drink company. Coke seeks to raise dollar sales volume and profits by raising syrup prices to bottlers by 7% which is double the usual rate. Negative publicity has also been incurred by monopolistic franchises in schools, the testing of a vending machine that can increase the price with the temperature, its non-compliance with the promise to use recycled plastic for bottles and efforts to control advertising placement in magazines.
