Article Abstract:
The UK Personal Investment Authority (PIA) brought in new disclosure rules affecting pension and life insurance products in Jan 1995. Investors should be given information on costs, risks and aims of these products. Similar rules are to be applied to units trusts, investment trusts and personal equity plans. The impact of costs is shown through a projection using a rate of return of 7.5% or 9% where products are exempt from taxation. This rate of return may be changed in line with changes in the economic climate.

A way into the high risk Lloyd's market
Article Abstract:
Hiscox Investment Management has launched its Hiscox Insurance Portfolio Fund, which is a managed fund with international exposure as well as exposure to a range of insurance markets. Some investors who underwrote premium income, taking on unlimited liability, were hit when the market encountered problems in the early 1990s. The fund is geared for those investors not prepared to accept unlimited liability. It still involves risk and investors have to have faith in the ability of the fund manager.

Article Abstract:
New disclosure rules come into force on UK pooled funds. The UK Personal Investment Authority (PIA) has introduced these rules which include an obligation to disclose risk levels, commission and other charges, and the impact of charges on growth levels of a fund. Investors have previously had access to much of this information but it was not always clearly set out. Charges are not the only factor affecting funds' growth rates, and the record of the manager is also important.
