An interesting public spending problem
Article Abstract:
Indications of the British 1986 Public Expenditure White Paper are: the government's controlled spending on services and goods, a trend toward smaller spending growth, and increased interest payments on the national debt. The deterioration in government financing is disguised by a change in the way debt interest is presented in the White Paper. The latter indicates that the government has always underestimated the amount of interest it has to pay on national debt. The increase in debt interest payments can only be slowed down if the economy's growth rate surpasses the rate of growth in Britain's national debt.

North Sea oil and Schedule E
Article Abstract:
The taxation of employees' salaries is complicated when the employees are involved in North Sea oil exploration activities, since part of the salaries is earned within the United Kingdom and part of the salaries is earned outside the United Kingdom. Preparation of Schedule E tax reports for these employees is discussed, as are Norwegian tax laws (as this is the jurisdiction under which the non-British portion of the salaries is taxable).
