Semiconductors: chips warm up at last
Article Abstract:
Order for semiconductors were more than sales in Oct 1996, giving a book-to-bill ratio of 1.10 compared with 0.98 for Sep 1996. Shares in Texas Instruments and Intel rose on the news though these companies argue that the book-to-bill ratio should be abolished. Critics argue that the industry accepts the ratio when it is favorable and only complain when it is not. The Oct 1996 figure has come after a difficult period of overcapacity and drops in demand in 1996.
