Analyst: Air Force contemplating JSF cuts

The Air Force is contemplating about cutting its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) acquisition program by 600 or more aircraft in order to be able to redirect the funds to other requirements. The Air Force might jettison up to 700 copies of the JSF in exchange for more F-22A Raptors and more money for urgent priorities such as a new aerial refueling tanker.

'Prepare for tough choices,' McCain warns Air Force
Article Abstract:
Sen. John McCain warned the top Air Force officials to make tough choices and reduce costs in terms of acquisition spending. He specified that Air Force would have to prioritize their follow-on procurements, thus giving importance to the UAVs who have proven themselves efficient in bringing tremendous coverage to the battlefield.

Aerial tanker studies wind down
Article Abstract:
The Pentagon is on track to finish reviewing by about mid-October 2005, the last in a battery of studies concerning the US Air Force's acquisition of aerial refueling tankers. Pentagon's decision to go ahead and buy replacements for its aging fleet of KC-135 aircraft would be made only after the completion of the review.
