Volume on the Asian asset-backed securities market is forecasted at $3 billion in 1997, up from a mere $500 million in 1996. The securitization market, which includes mortgage-backed securities, is booming in Asia and Australasia. Hong Kong has become the chief Asian securitization market, though deals on Australia's more sophisticated market are more complex and offer greater variety.
