Random mask brightens image
Article Abstract:
Confocal scanning laser microscopes are more advantageous than ordinary optical microscopes but suffer from reduced light intensity. This problem can be solved by the presence of an aperture mask in which holes are closely packed in random sequences. This lets the microscope use 50% of the light. The openings and closings of adjacent holes is independent of one another. After processing, the microscope produces a brighter confocal image superimposed on a conventional one.
