Atlantic Telecom is a competitive local exchange carrier which focuses on services employing fixed radio access, in Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow, and high users such as internet surfers. The company plans a launch in Edinburgh, and aims for a 10% stake in the Scottish market by 2006. The company is carrying out trials of a fast data communications system which could be available at year-end 1999. Atlantic has also been awarded, in principle, five licenses by the United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry for major urban areas in Wales and England.
