Back on a firmer footing
Article Abstract:
Flare is a ceramic supplier which is carrying out a stock offer to raise 7.8 million pounds sterling. The company has seen a drop in its stock price following a downward estimate for its profit from Greig Middleton. The company should be able to reduce its gearing after the fund raising, and plans two acquisitions with some of the money. These are Elmeceram, which supplies capital equipment, and CH Rathbone, a screen printed transfer specialist. The company has been hit by a rise in the value of pound sterling, but if following a strategy as planned and the underlying business is performing well.

Pole position
Article Abstract:
Universal Ceramic Materials has seen its profit forecast downgraded and has been affected by the rise in value of pound sterling in 1996. The company's position should improve in 1997 as it increases its stake in the market with an investment in two plants and the departure of smaller rivals. The company holds a stake of some 50% in the global market for powders for heating elements. The company's profit is forecast at 3.8 million pounds sterling for 1997 by Beeson Gregory, rather than the 4.7 million pounds previously forecast.
