Why do contagion effects vary among bank failures?
Article Abstract:
Research describing contagion effects caused by publicized bank failures is presented, on the basis of surveys of ninety nine publicized bank failures from 1980 to 1996. Particular attention is given to reasons for the diversity of contagion effects amongst bank failures.

Even at higher cost, US banks tend to hold more reserves, which the Federal Reserve provides, on days when the cost of holding them is cyclically highest because settlement days are when they have precise information on their reserve needs.
