Beneath the concrete and the clay
Article Abstract:
The UK cable industry is growing rapidly and 75% of UK homes are to be cabled by 2000, involving an investment of more than 10 billion pounds sterling. Companies have to bid for a license then lay lines and provide a service. Income is available from multimedia and telecommunications services as well as from cable TV, once the lines have been laid. Operators will also need to attract and retain subscribers in order to survive on a long term basis. Companies involved in the UK market include TeleWest and Nynex.
