Berlow on Time Text
Article Abstract:
Typographer David Berlow, who is also president of The Font Bureau Inc., is interviewed concerning his contributions to the redesign of 'Time' magazine's typeface, Time Text. He cites the reasons why a proprietary face was used and explains the influences behind it, particularly the limits of the Atex word processing system. In addition, he believes that the implementation was successful despite some additional adjustments required, and that the accessibility of typographic equipment makes the outlook of typesetting bright.

Multiple mastery: Adobe's new fonts
Article Abstract:
Adobe Systems Inc's Multiple Masters computer font software offers several typeface design possibilities for users without sacrificing the fine points of typography. It allows the user to create many variations of a typeface, which has up to four master design pairs, within specific ranges for its weight axes. This system is advantageous in that it has compatibility with PostScript-based equipment, is user-friendly and consumes less disk space.

Copyright protection in the age of digital media
Article Abstract:
The advent of digital technology has made it harder for illustrators, graphic designers, photographers and other creative service providers to protect their artwork, especially with the continuing unrevision of copyright laws from 1976. This is further complicated by clients who not so much intentionally plagiarize as simply copy for convenience. Thus, tips for the maximum design protection possible in ambigious legal stances are presented.
