Mass market driving photofinishing growth
Article Abstract:
The US amateur photography market grew once more in 1998, fueled by continuing advances in digital imaging photographic equipment, accessories and services as well as growing public awareness of the Advanced Photo System. Overall amateur photography sales grew by nearly $700 million to $14.9 billion in 1998. While traditional products, such as sales of rolls of film and film processing, continued to contribute two-thirds of revenues, digital products and services contributed over 8% to overall market sales.

Booming U.S. economy drives 1999 holiday sales

Photographic specialty retailers in the US attribute the boost in their 1999 holiday sales to a booming economy. Another contributing factor is a product mix that includes digital cameras, photofinishing products and film cameras. Sales were also boosted by accessories and ancillary services. Consumer response to digitization of photos on site was strong although traditionals such as 35mm, 24mm and the SLR category also remained strong.

Holiday season has retailers seeing green
Article Abstract:
Sales of various photo imaging goods was strong during the 1998 holiday season. According to photo specialty retailers, consumers got interested in many products such as digital technology and Advanced Photo Systems cameras. For instance, Noble Industries Inc, a three-store photo specialty retailer basedin Hingham, MA, experienced a 12% sales increase in Thanksgiving weekend. Most of its customers were looking for digital cameras.
