Bringing home the bacon
Article Abstract:
Investors may consider second hand endowment polices providing annual bonuses and a larger bonus when the policy matures. The traded endowment market is supplied by policies traded between 10 and 15 years ago, so a drop in sales of new policies will not affect it for some time. Rising divorce rates may contribute to the increased supply of endowment policies. Endowment mortgages used to bring tax advantages on interest payments, with inflation eroding the debt in real terms, but this has changed as tax relief ends and inflation rates fall.

Taking a break
Article Abstract:
Flexible mortgages have been available in the United Kingdom for two years yet they are not as popular as one might expect. They offer a different way of repaying the loan which involves automatic crediting of overpayments. Some mortgages do not recognise overpayments except on one day of the year, and investors may wait over 11 months for an overpayment to be recognised. Flexible mortgages can also offer loan facilities. They are meant to reflect changes in working patterns such as less job security.

As safe as houses
Article Abstract:
Many holders of British endowment policies have been told to increase payments in order to save enough to repay a mortgage. The returns on investment have dropped in line with lower interest rates and inflation. Endowment mortgages had more advantages when tax relief for mortgage holders was more generous. Endowments still have uses as long term savings plans. Interest-only mortgages can be repaid early and the endowment policy can be used for purposes other than repaying the mortgage.
