Bringing the US on board
Article Abstract:
BPB has made a bid for National Gypsum, a US producer of plasterboard. BPB shares subequently fell in value though the acquisition would be beneficial for the company in the long term. Some analysts argue that the bid had been wrongly timed since National Gypsum would have been cheaper in 1993 and there is some two years' growth in the US construction market. There is also concern over legal liabilities from asbestos-based products sold by National Gypsum in the 1950s and 1960s.
