Analyst Steven Kosiak of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments supplies numbers that suggest defense spending is high contravening US Secretary of State, while Donald Rumsfeld and other lawmakers deny this status.

Clark sees billions of savings to aid procurement

Adm. Vern Clark, chief of naval operations revealed that by eliminating more than 25,000 personnel slots, the U.S. Navy could save about $3 billion annually. Clark observes increasing personnel costs as one of the main problems, having estimated to about $104.8 billion for fiscal 2005.
