Building society bets: merger (and demutalisation) mania has hig building socieites. It'salmost certainly worth having a punt on which society will be the next one to give its members afree-hand-out of cash or shares
Article Abstract:
Placing money in each of the majorsocieties that are still seeking partners may seem a way of guaranteeing a windfall, but the ruleson bonus payments are extremely complex and are designed to prevent savers from moving fromsociety to society. In the Halifax/Leeds pay-out, deposit account holders are excluded, but withthe C&G deal, depositors will get at least the minimum payment of 500 pounds sterling, although share account investors are excluded if they have held the account for less than twoyears.

Please look after this building society
Article Abstract:
UK savings and loan associations such as the National and Provincial are abandoning their status as mutuals and paying customers as they do so. Savers could benefit from this trend, but some savings and loan associations argue that their mutual status brings benefits. They are less likely to fail than are banks, since mutuals do not make corporate loans or speculate. They are aso seen as better than banks at tackling complaints, and communicating with customers.
