CMO title grows in use as marketing grabs spotlight
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of firms are adding the title chief marketing officer (CMO) in a move which reflects the growing importance of marketing as a major growth engine. CMOs frequently report directly to CEOs and are part of their company's executive committee. Their primary function is to increase overall organizational marketing excellence, provide marketing development, access marketing resources to act as consultants and serve as troubleshooters for individual business units. The position is also becoming a nurturing ground for potential future CEOs.
