Call to use housing receipts to kick start the economy
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Housing recommends the release of council receipts for home sales to alleviate the housing slump in the UK. Peter Williams, the Institute's president, states that several measures are needed to spur the economy. He says that the piece-meal release of eight billion pounds sterling could build 80,000 homes from 1993 to 1996. He also recommends the building of more affordable housing. The Institute, likewise, suggests accounting changes in the Public Sector Borrowing Requirement by isolating profits from the principal to promote social housing expenditure.
