A stock brokerage rents CFOs
Article Abstract:
Butcher Consulting Group's 'CFO Advisory Service' is midway through a two-year start-up program, helping clients gauge the potential effect of management decisions with the help of Decision Support Systems, a computer-backed financial simulation model of corporate operations. This 'rent-a-CFO' service is especially independent, since subjects on which clients are advised typically have little to do with investments, and customers are rarely clients of the parent firm. All income is derived from service fees, usually beginning at an hourly rate, and negotiated into retainer arrangements when fees start to accumulate. Planning, treasury, and bankruptcy applications of the simulation model are described.

Cash flow implies a lot more than cash management
Article Abstract:
The real meaning of cash flow goes beyond cash management in the dictionary sense of measuring corporate worth. Cash flow managers need to handle interest rate movements, influence decisions on insurance coverage levels, decide on whether or not to issue new equity to take advantage of historic stock market highs, and deal with potential corporate takeovers and tender offers. The mission of the treasury finance officer is to help increase corporate worth or shareholder value through enlightened corporate cash flow management, serving as the 'alter ego' of the CEO.
