Credit cardholders will no longer need to identify themselves with their signatures, due to the new chip and PIN system that is expected to reduce fraud as well as ease administrative costs for retailers. Short-term problems, however, will come up particularly as the focus is on retailers to incorporate the new system and it will be up to the accountancy profession to ease the transition for their clients by timely and appropriate advice.

The impact of the US presidential election in 2004 on UK business is anticipated, as UK is one of the closest economic, social and political allies. However, not many impacts are anticipated on the inward investment and accountancy regulations of the UK.
