Chartered accountants mean business
Article Abstract:
Recently, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales announced that 1986 would be designated as Industry Year in an effort to heighten public awareness of the accounting industry in Britain and improve the public image of independent accountants in that country. In an interview, Derek A. Boothman, deputy-president of the Institute, discusses some of the programs begun to launch Industry Year. Boothman also points out that accounting, as an industry, can do much to alleviate poor economic conditions throughout Britain by heading off unwise investments planned by client corporations and helping client corporations to remain solvent. If industry is to improve in Britain, then management will have to become stronger, which could begin with better accounting services offered to corporate managers.

So you want to be an MBA?
Article Abstract:
Management skills are essential to personal and career development for the person interested in entering business fields. Two graduates of the Cranfield School of Management's MBA program, Arun Sarwal and Stuart Burnett, talk about the effect completion of an MBA program has had on their careers. In general, they found the MBA course taxing and do not recommend that one take the course as an easy way to change careers. Cranfield has offered two scholarships to readers of Accountancy magazine in order to enable them to get started on their MBA degree.
