Choice of time-headway in car-following and the role of time-to-collision information in braking
Article Abstract:
The difference in the preferred time headway between long and short follower car drivers is related to the differences in their ability to control their braking intensity. The time-to-collision information controls the braking initiation but the brake-reaction time sensitivity of long and short followers is similar. The adaptation of the braking response to the required level requires visual feedback while maneuvering the brakes. Short followers programme the braking to the required levels, and develop criticality in time during braking better than the long followers.

Towards Communication between Different Civilizations
Article Abstract:
The French public attention was captured some years ago by two events: the visit of Pope John Paul II to Paris and the French election campaigns. The politicians assured the public that they knew the answers to public opinion problems; the Pope, surrounded by an aura of charisma, asked his audience to question themselves personally about such problems. The implications for study of cross-cultural communication are great.
