Clydeport is a port operator from Scotland which acquired a cargo terminal at Hunterston on the estuary of the river Clyde following the closure of nearby steel works by British Steel. Hunterston has deep-water docks which are being used for steam coal. Viridian, the eletricity generator in Northern Ireland, imports coal, and West Scotland Fuels has also increased demand for the port's services. Clydeport could achieve an operating profit of 11 million pounds sterling in 1998.
