Compaq exchanges Scotland for Bohemia
Article Abstract:
Compaq (US), computer manufacturer, will move a considerable part of manufacturing intended for Europe, Africa and the Near East to the Czech Republic. Reasons are economic advantages. Compaq produces about 500,000 computers per month for the region of Europe, Africa and the Near East. Its production capacity in the Czech Republic will be nearly 300,000 computers per month, more than a half. Czech computer production for Compaq will be ensured by the computer firms FIC (Taiwan) and Foxconn (Taiwan), which have branches in the Czech Republic. FIC CZ (Rudna u Prahy, Czech Republic), computer firm, is building two new production rooms at its plant. The plant should produce nearly 1,000 computers per month and should have about 1,000 employees shortly. The firm's hitherto production capacity was 50,000 computers per month. FIC CZ has about 400 employees. Its plant is the largest computer manufacturer in the Czech Republic. Foxconn (Pardubice, Czech Republic), computer manufacturer, will increase the number of its employees to 3,000 shortly compared to the current 300 persons. The reason is the extension of the firm's production for Compaq. Foxconn should produce over 100,000 computers per month. The firm's hitherto computer production was realized for Apple. The company came to Pardubice in the middle of 2000, when it bought the bankrupt firm Tesla HTT (Pardubice, Czech Republic) for CEK 102 mil.
