Competitiveness of the European space industry. Lessons from Europe's role in NATO
Article Abstract:
The effect of the leadership role of the US military space capabilities within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on the performance and competitiveness of the space sector in Europe was analyzed using an economics model. The results projected that the commitment of the Western European Union (WEU) will strengthen the position of the European space industry, provided that WEU collaborates with the European Space Agency. Thus, Europe must establish policies that will enable it remain competitive with the US space industry.

Lack of a coherent policy
Article Abstract:
A reaction to the Education Remote Sensing Conference '92 is presented. There was an impressive array of educational aids for study of outerspace through remote sensing. However, there seemed to be a lack of educational policy regarding curriculum planning using remote sensor images. The images are tools to be used, not a subject to be studied in general education. Only the Earth Images Project seemed to be organized in the promotion of remote sensing.
