Cross-decking, other moves permit more missions with same ships
Article Abstract:
The techniques such as cross-decking, the practice of swapping key leadership personnel between ships are proposed to be used by the Navy for providing more capability out of the same ships. This approach enables the Navy to better utilize the vessels it already has afloat and also includes flexibility in providing command and control functions.

The vice chief of naval operations-designate, Adm. John Nathman, United States reveals that the Navy requires only 40 to 50, of the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS). The Navy wants each ship to cost $150 million to $220 million, without interchangeable mission modules that confer an outsized array of capabilities on each small ship.

Adm. Nathman: CG(X) radar, missiles needn't be on same ship
Article Abstract:
The CG(X) radar and the anti-ballistic missiles (ABM) in the shield system need not be installed on the same ship or ships according to Adm. John Nathman, commander of the Fleet Forces Command and commander of the Atlantic Fleet. Indications are that the next-generation cruiser might be smaller than the CG(X) planned currently.
