Daimler-Benz
Article Abstract:
Daimler-Benz moved into transportation as a whole in the late 1980s, diversifying from automobile manufacturing. The acquisition of AEG, a rail and power engineering concern, and Deutsche Aerospace (Dasa) led to losses, and much of AEG has been sold. Debis, a subsidiary involved in computer consulting and financial services, has performed better. Mercedes Benz cars are increasing their market share and performed well in 1995, but the group is still affected by the problems of Dasa, and to a lesser extent of AEG.

British Aerospace
Article Abstract:
British Aerospace has undergone a recovery following problems in 1992, and the company's stocks have risen tenfold in this period. There is a danger that possible bad news is not accounted for in the company's stock price, while good news is accounted for. Saudi Arabia accounts for two thirds of the company's profit from defense, and political problems in that country could hit that profit. The world defense industry is also undergoing consolidation and the company has to move fast in order not to lag behind.
