Dancing to a South American tune
Article Abstract:
Latin American economies were affected by the devaluation of the Mexican peso in 1994. This led to a withdrawal of foreign investment, a collapse in the peso's value, high inflation levels and high interest rates. Longer term, Latin American economies have been affected by low growth and low savings rates linked to a concentration of assets among a few people, and high government spending levels. Pessimists argue that political risk is still a problem, but optimists argue that these economies are growing. Chile is cited as the best individual market for investors.

Latin America shakes off its hangover
Article Abstract:
Latin America was affected by the Mexican financial crisis of 1994 to 1995 but has since brought in reforms that have helped boost profitability and economic performance. The region is seen as having great potential though there are risks from rises in US interest rates, drops in US stock prices, and domestic political uncertainty. Argentina is favored by some investors, as is Brazil, while Chile is seen as affected by tight monetary policy which has hit economic growth.

Time to join the Latin American carnival
Article Abstract:
Latin America was hit by the Mexican financial crisis in 1995, but developments have been positive in Latin America at the time of the Asian financial crisis of 1997 and 1998. Investors have benefited from good returns for Latin American investments. Economic reform combined with strong economic growth have created a favorable investment climate. Inflation has been subdued, even in Brazil. Latin American stocks are still seen as risky, so they tend not to be expensive.
