Dealers are rare individuals
Article Abstract:
The antique market in London and its international aspects are described. Antiques started becoming commonly popular in the 1960s and 1970s, and due to currency fluctuations, the biggest buyers have been from either the European Continent or the U.S. during this period. London's three largest antique dealers are Phillips, Christies, and Sothebys; their annual turnovers in thousands of pounds sterling are listed for the ten-year period from 1976 to 1986. London antique dealers generally charge sellers and buyers a 10 percent commission, for an effective net commission of 20 percent per sale. Currently, the demand for antiques and the buying power of collectors exceed the supply of antique objects available for sale.

Banking on beauty
Article Abstract:
Judicious purchase of antiques can be an attractive investment vehicle as well as a good hedge against inflation. Investment in antiques usually increases in times of stock market volatility; it can be risky for the uninitiated or the unwary, but expert advice is available. Most collectors advise purchasing antiques that are utilitarian or decorative, and avoid purchasing objects purely for investment. Demand for antiques is expected to continue exceeding supply, and currently small collectable objects and Regency furniture are especially popular.

Take care: you could be burning money
Article Abstract:
There are four methods of disposing of a decedent's property. Auctions are the simplest method, but care must be taken in choosing a reputable house associated with an estate agent. Antique dealers may also be invited to bid on objects, in which case a large group of bids should be solicited. House cleaners represent a third option, and will take most of the remainders left by the first two. Garage sales are the last method.
