Deals done on trust
Article Abstract:
UK investors can buy investment trust shares through stockbrokers or through share dealing facilities supplied by investment trusts themselves. Investors can use monthly savings schemes which can bring benefits from pound cost averaging which reduces risks from unfortunate timing of share purchases. Investors should examine charges for monthly schemes and whether there is a minimum charge. Annual charges for investment trusts tend to be lower than for unit trusts. Personal equity plans are offered by some investment trusts.

How they work
Article Abstract:
Unit trusts allow UK investors to diversify risks and cut costs when they invest in equities. The trust's assets are separate from the company managing the fund and investors pool cash which managers use to build an investment portfolio. Trustees guard investors' interests and they can retain their investments whatever happens to the company managing the fund. The Financial Services Act also provides protection for investors through regulators such as the Personal Investment Authority.
