Debtors get timely reminders from C3
Article Abstract:
The C3 system by Associated Computer Systems Ltd is designed to organize unpaid collections and prepare letters for the debtors. The system operates from a series of ground rules set down by the user during installation. The customer information can be put in manually or downloaded directly from the accounting system. The chase procedure is divided into 'stage', 'event' and 'someone' divisions. Before the program will move an entry from one 'stage' of collection to another an 'event' must occur which has been ordered by 'someone'. The records are coded with individual identification codes. The letter editing package comes with standard letters, or custom letters can be designed. The C3 system costs 750 pounds sterling or 2,500 pounds sterling for a UNIX-based system.

OS/2: a first look at Presentation Manager
Article Abstract:
IBM's OS/2 Presentation Manager computer program is the next major step in microcomputing, but the cost of hardware required for the OS/2 and lack of software for the system will slow its dispersion in the marketplace. The major improvement of OS/2 over MS-DOS is OS/2's multitasking operating system which allows several programs to be run at once. The Presentation Manager computer program shows the program currently in use as the top menu and programs that are running as a half obscured menu. A mouse is necessary for Presentation Manager because all of the manuals and most of the help screens are written for a mouse. The wide range acceptance of OS/2 is going to be stalled by the high cost of memory required to run OS/2 programs.
