Deep waters lie offshore
Article Abstract:
Offshore fundsbenefit from more relaxed regulatory obligations than funds based in the UK. Such funds mayoften involved a higher degree of specialization and policies may be more aggressive. There maybe less protection for UK investors in terms of compensation. Income on cash funds is paid grossof tax, and tax payments can thus be deferred. Equity funds may leave investors paying doubletax. Charges for offshore funds are sometimes high and may not be easy to calculate.

Beware of trusting new risk ratings
Article Abstract:
UK investment trust funds are assessed in terms of risk by a number of trust managers. These risk ratings are not always consistent since they use different methods. They could be seen as a marketing technique and tend to confuse investors. Investors should exercise caution due to the vagueness of some ratings, and lack of standards in the industry. Types and levels of risk may not be captured, and perceptions of risk can vary according to individuals.
