Demand for nursing beds can only go up
Article Abstract:
The UK market for nursing homes is expanding with a 225% growth in the number of registered private beds between 1987 and 1994. The number of people aged over 85 years old is set to increase to 2001 and rise by 100% from 2001 to 2036. The UK policy of care in the community is likely to increase demand for nursing at home, but demand for nursing homes looks set to increase due to the increase in the number of older people. Some 27% of people aged over 85 years are in nursing homes or hospitals.

Moving onto the essentials list
Article Abstract:
Private medical insurance is likely to become necessary from the year 2000 due to demographic factors and government policies. State-funded medical provision is likely to become means tested. The market for long-term health care for the aged is growing as is the market for medical insurance as a whole with some 6.3 million people covered by such insurance. Demand looks set to rise partly due to concern over restrictions on elective surgery within the National Health Service.
