Developing decision rules to aid tax professionals in ambiguous planning situations
Article Abstract:
Tax laws are often worded ambiguously to ensure that their implementation is according to that intended by lawmakers. However, such laws make for complex and uncertain planning situations. Since civil litigation has been on the rise, tax professionals need models or systems that could aid them in decision-making when faced with ambiguous tax cases, such as in the determination of the levels of compensation that owner-employees of closely-held firms will find reasonable. These models or systems should lessen the total tax cost to the firm and its owner.

Promotion decisions: a rough set approach
Article Abstract:
Promotions are one of the best ways to motivate managers into performing their best. However, the varied characteristics of both raters and ratee and organizational politics may open promotion decisions to certain biases. This can also happen due to the inherent ambiguity in rating the performance of managers. Through the use of rough set methods, the decision process by which promotions are made can be improved. Performance evaluations can also be enhanced by patterning promotion judgments on these methods.

Artificial neural systems and decision behavior in a dynamic environment
Article Abstract:
Neural networks play a significant role in decision making in a dynamic environment of risks and uncertainties. The use of neural networks in decision making is important since it considers the interactive dynamics of variables involved in a managerial decision environment. In particular, business decisions are expected to gain from the parallel computational properties of neural networks.
