The company plans to open more garden centers, and this is an expanding market in the United Kingdom. Dobbies is one of only three public companies involved in the field.

Turnover for 1st half 1995 was reduced by between 3% and 4% due to this legislation, though the company recovered some of this loss by opening later at night. Garden and house plants account for some 50% of sales, and dry weather in spring 1995 followed by cold weather in Jun 1995 affected plant sales. Sales of garden furniture rose, compensating for this drop.
