Does focus improve operational performance? Lessons from the management of clinical trials
Article Abstract:
The use of different levels of focus as a means to drive improved performance in biopharmaceutical trials management is investigated. Findings reveal that focusing on a specific tasl at the divisional or company level produces higher productivity and output with regards to the task handled. The performance of firms employing divisional focus solely is compared to that of those who use both levels of focus.

Business planning was criticized on the ground that it interferes with the efforts of firm founders to undertake more valuable actions to develop their fledging enterprises. This view is challenged by arguing that business planning is an important precursor to action in new ventures.
