Downloading prices
Article Abstract:
Private investors using investment software need to download data on share prices. They may opt for simple forms of data such as share prices at the end of each day, or they may want real-time data, which is more expensive. Data can be downloaded through the telephone using a teletext adaptor card fitted in the computer. Data can also be delivered by modem. There are also data available by e-mail and data is available from Electronic Share Information's web site. There is also software available on disks supplied weekly for investors with modest needs.

Fathoming the fundamentals
Article Abstract:
Software can be used for technical analysis of share prices. Investors should be wary of making decisions based simply on past movements of share prices. They should also have some idea of the fundamentals of stocks they are assessing. Spreadsheet templates can be entered once for each company and then be updated. They can contain data such as gearing and return on capital. There is also software which can help investors in valuing shares using a number of methods.
