E-commerce is good news for equities
Article Abstract:
Electronic commerce could help boost stock prices by cutting buying and selling costs for business. Productivity is improved, and profit margins may be raised for buyers if prices drop, while inventories can be reduced with better management of supply and demand chains. Lower inventories could reduce inventory fluctuations, and so bring greater economic stability. Companies may, however, have less incentive to reduce prices, if they see their rivals' prices, and they may use price-matching strategies. A drop in prices could also mean that some firms see profit margins fall.

The music of the future
Article Abstract:
CDNow is an online music store which aims to attract lapsed music consumers who can search a database for their favorite songs and artists. They can even have a compilation CD customised to their requirements. Barriers to entry are reduced by online selling methods. Major stores are likely to enter this market as it becomes more profitable. Artists may be able to bypass record labels and sell their music directly. There are still problems to tackle such as piracy, but competition is likely to increase from online retailing.
