EBRD invests in Oskar
Article Abstract:
Cesky Mobil (CM) (Prague, Czech Republic), operator of the mobile network Oskar, has received a capital support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). EBRD plans to invest USD 25 mil, about CEK 1 bil, in CM. The investment will be realized through the purchase of shares in TIW Czech (Prague, Czech Republic), CM's parent company. The proceeds from the sale could be used as a reserve for the purchase of a licence to operate third-generation mobile networks in the Czech Republic. TIW Czech is a subsidiary of TIW (Canada).

There are 5 mil mobile telephones in the Czech Republic

Czech Republic: According to the statistics of mobile network operators, every second citizen has a mobile telephone in the Czech Republic. The number of mobile telephones is about 5 mil in the Czech Republic. Cesky Mobil, which operates the network Oskar, had 403,000 clients at the end of Apr 2001. Eurotel had 2.5 mil clients at the beginning of Apr 2001 and Radiomobil 2 mil clients at the end of Feb 2001.
